On 5 June 1971, the International Tchoukball Federation (FITB) was founded from humble beginnings with the very first members, Switzerland and France.
Today we celebrate our 50th anniversary as an organisation together with our members. Tchoukball is played in all 5 sporting continents, with member federations in 4 of them. To mark this great occasion, the FITB is proud to present a video of tchoukball played over these last 50 years:
Check out our celebratory video here!
The video contains footage from across the world of tchoukball from the past 50 years, showing the first few times tchoukball was played. Follow tchoukball from sports halls in Switzerland to the beaches of Africa and, from our global events and the first World Championships in 1984 to the 2019 World Championships in Malaysia!
President Fang Shen-Szu sends this message to our national federations, players, volunteers and supporters from around the world:
Dear Tchoukball Partners around the world,
In 1969, our dear Dr Hermann Brandt completed his thesis "A scientific approach to Team Sports" and invented Tchoukball, with rules that advance his educational objectives. For his work, he won the prestigious Thulin Prize from the International Physical Education Federation in 1970.
Dr Hermann Brandt said "The objective of human physical activities is not to make champions, but rather to construct a harmonious society".
This year 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the International Tchoukball Federation. We want to take this opportunity to thank Dr Hermann Brandt for Tchoukball and the impact it has on us.
Today, FITB have 49 members and Tchoukball has been promoted to more than 80 countries around the world. I wish to take this opportunity to also express my appreciation to all our honorary presidents, administrators, coaches, promoters, partners and friends around the world, we could not have achieved these without all of you.
Since 2020, the world has been greatly affected by COVID-19, everyone is concerned about our health and safety. I hope that we will overcome the pandemic soon and resume our normal lives and Tchoukball activities.
Wishing FITB a happy 50th anniversary.
Wishing everyone great health and stay safe!
