The Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Commission (DEIC) is responsible for making Tchoukball a sport for all. Building on the Tchoukball Charter, our Bylaws, and committed to the IOC’s vision of sport as a human right, the DEIC ensures that all our athletes, fans, and officials work in a truly inclusive environment.

Purpose:
The Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Sport Commission (DEIC) is committed to promoting equality and inclusivity across all levels of Tchoukball. The Commission focuses on eliminating barriers to participation based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, social demographics, and other underrepresented groups. The DEIC aims to foster an environment where athletes, coaches, referees, and officials can participate and thrive regardless of their identity or background.
Authority:
The DEIC operates under the authority of the FITB and reports directly to the Vice President. It is empowered to:
- Develop and implement policies and programs that ensure inclusivity for individuals regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and social demographics.
- Monitor participation rates, leadership opportunities, and representation of all groups within Tchoukball.
- Recommend changes to FITB regulations and structures to enhance inclusivity and diversity.
- Collaborate with national federations to implement inclusive practices and promote mixed-category participation.
The DEIC shall consist of:
- Sylvia Ghiorzo (Diversity & Equality Commission)
- Experts in gender equality, inclusivity, and human rights
- Representatives from national and continental federations, ensuring representation from diverse gender, religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Membership will be appointed by FITB for a term of 4 years, and members will be selected based on their expertise in promoting equality and inclusivity in sport, including religion, race, and social demographics.
Responsibilities:
The Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Sport Commission will be responsible for:
- Developing and promoting policies that ensure inclusivity for all individuals, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, and social demographics, with a focus on increasing participation from underrepresented groups.
- Identifying and addressing barriers to participation based on any of these characteristics and ensuring that Tchoukball is accessible and welcoming to all.
- Encouraging mixed-category competitions to promote inclusivity and equal participation across different identities.
- Increasing representation of women, LGBT individuals, and individuals of diverse races and religions in leadership roles, coaching, officiating, and governance.
- Monitoring participation rates across all demographic groups and proposing specific actions to close gaps in inclusivity.
- Creating educational programs and awareness campaigns that promote inclusivity, sensitivity to different social demographics, and understanding of issues related to gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation.
- Supporting national federations in implementing inclusive policies and practices, ensuring that diversity is respected and promoted at all levels of the sport.
- Collaborating with other FITB commissions to align gender equality, religious and racial inclusivity, and broader goals within the sport.
- Ensuring fair and equal treatment of all participants, regardless of identity, and advocating for policies that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
Meetings:
- The DEIC shall meet [frequency] or as required, with a quorum consisting of 2/3 members.
- Decisions will be made by [voting/consensus], and minutes will be circulated to the FITB Executive Committee and other relevant bodies.
Reporting:
The DEIC will submit regular reports to FITB, including:
- Progress on inclusivity initiatives, particularly for underrepresented groups.
- Data on representation and participation across gender, race, religion, and social demographics.
- Recommendations for future inclusivity initiatives.
Resources and Support:
The DEIC will be supported by the FITB Secretariat and will have access to necessary resources, including educational materials and partnerships with organizations promoting diversity and inclusivity.
Review and Amendment:
This Terms of Reference will be reviewed annually to ensure relevance and effectiveness. Amendments may be proposed by the DEIC and must be approved by FITB.
